INDEPENDENT
EXHIBITIONS
Independent Exhibitions is a museum consulting firm specializing in exhibition design, development, and management; strategic planning with an emphasis on exhibitions, public programs, and fund-raising; and visitor research and evaluation. A sole proprietorship in operation since 1979, Independent Exhibitions has provided a wide range of services to museums of science, art, and history, children's museums, and visitor centers in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.
Over the years, Independent Exhibitions has functioned in a variety of capacities, from providing consulting services and acting as client's agent, to turn-key services (such as concept and design through fabrication and installation). Currently, we provide consulting services to museums directly, as well as to exhibition firms and project teams of all shapes and sizes.
Among the noteworthy exhibitions of Independent Exhibitions are The Pratt Museum's Darkened Waters: Profile of an Oil Spill, which travelled nationally for 9 years; Daniel's Story: Remember the Children at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. (originally designed to be open for five years, and now—twelve years after opening, and after a recent evaluation—scheduled to remain on view indefinitely); and The Oakland Museum's Soft Gold: The Fur Trade and Cultural Exhange on the Northwest Coast.
