A temporary exhibition on math and measurement at the Brooklyn Children's Museum that was designed around a superhero theme, but without using any commercially branded characters. Each fantasy “ruler of the universe” was composed of measurement tools such as rulers, calculators, clocks, and scales. Black walls throughout were hand-painted with thousands of stars.
Visitors could discover how many balls tall they were, spot objects both near and far, and compare the weights of unusual objects. At nearby writing stations, people could record on special “measurement sheets” their personal statistics. At “Tongue Pull” visitors could compare the different lengths of animal tongues. Giant illustrated story books with turnable pages described early measurement techniques for time, weight, and length.
